Answer

Ask everyone, ask soon, and make it one click.

Timing: within a few days of finishing, or immediately after someone says something positive unprompted. Never while an issue is open.

Method: ask in conversation first if you can — "would you be willing to leave a short review? I'll send the link" — then follow with an email containing a direct link to the review form, not your homepage.

The biggest barrier is not willingness, it is the blank box. Give three prompts: what was going on before, what was it like working together, what changed afterward.

One reminder after a week. Never more.

Two things to avoid: never offer a discount, gift, or payment in exchange for a review, and never ask only the customers you expect to be positive. Both are prohibited by most review platforms and treated as misleading conduct in many places.

Review platforms and consumer-protection rules prohibit incentivized or selectively solicited reviews. Ask everyone, offer nothing in return, and get written permission before republishing a review in your marketing.
