Answer
As short as the job allows — and the job varies. A follow-up email: three to five sentences. Anything longer gets skimmed and the ask gets missed. A newsletter: one idea taught properly, usually 300–600 words. A launch or announcement email: whatever it takes to answer the obvious questions, but structured with headings so it can be skimmed. More useful than word count: put the point in the first two lines. Most people decide whether to keep reading before they scroll. And use one call to action. Two competing asks usually produce zero actions. Read it on a phone before you send it. If it looks like a wall, break it up.
