Answer
An SOP — standard operating procedure — is a written description of how a recurring task gets done in your business. A good one has: a purpose, a scope, an owner, the tools needed, the inputs required, the steps in order, a quality-control checklist, a definition of done, and a review date. The point is not bureaucracy. It is that the task gets done the same way whether you do it, your newest team member does it, or you do it at 6pm on a Friday when you are tired. Where to start: pick the task you explain most often, or the one that goes wrong most often. Write down what you actually do, not what you think you should do. Then run it once and correct it. Five SOPs that describe reality beat fifty that describe an imaginary business.
